THIRD NATIONAL SIMULATION EXERCISE ON HUMAN TRAFFICKING

The Third National Simulation Exercise "Combating Trafficking in Human Beings on Migration Routes" was organized and conducted from 19 to 23 September 2022 in Almaty. Training was conducted for staff of the procuracy, police, migration and social services, labour inspectorates and NGO representatives.

Sagynbek Samat and Khassanova Shakhnoza participated in the simulation exercise on behalf of NGO "Sana Sezim". During the week the participants practiced in the most realistic conditions the skills of responding to signals about human trafficking, within the training scenario to search and identify victims of human trafficking, to provide them with necessary assistance, to conduct operational and investigative activities, to collect evidence and to prepare procedural documents. Thus, there was an opportunity to practice interaction schemes between all state agencies and non-governmental organizations involved.

One of the important points is that this exercise enables all participants to work in a coordinated manner in counteracting human trafficking and to provide effective assistance to victims of human trafficking efficiently and promptly. In addition, the exercise allows for a victim-centered approach to be taught to victims, which in turn allows trafficked persons to realize all of their rights and seek justice.

I would like to note the special work in the preparation and organization of the national simulation exercise by the Academy of Law Enforcement Agencies under the General Prosecutor's Office of Kazakhstan, under which the Hub operates and provides all possible support in combating human trafficking (Zhanar Seitayeva) and CARICC, on the basis of which the simulation was carried out. The simulation exercise was supported by the OSCE Program Office in Astana, the U.S. Embassy in Astana, and Winrock International.
