«Improving Russian language skills among vulnerable groups of children to integrate and improve learning outcomes, especially children in migration processes and children who returned from conflict zones» in Shymkent and Turkestan region.

Project Timeline: July 15, 2021 – February 1, 2023

Project geography: Shymkent, Turkestan region.

Goal:Supporting affordable lifelong learning for those deemed by the school to be lagging behind in literacy skills, especially for children affected by migration or children returning from conflict zones, during and after the COVID-19 pandemic by providing access to literacy skills development and a digital language course, in particular the Russian language.

Target group:

At least 85 children aged 5 to 17 years old will benefit from Russian language courses on the Akelius platform, as well as support from Russian language teachers in selected schools with the support of NGOs by the end of January 2023;

Expected results:

  • 1. 250 children aged 5 to 17 years old will benefit from Russian language courses on the Akelius platform, as well as support from Russian language teachers in selected schools in Shymkent with the support of NGOs by the end of January 2023.
  • 2. By the end of January 2023, a total of 3 teachers, 1 coordinator and NGO experts will be trained on the use of the language platform, blended teaching and learning approach, additional teaching, student assessment and learning approach.
  • 3. The Russian language course on the Akelius platform will be tested and piloted in Shymkent and the lessons learned will be taken into account for further improvement of the platform.
