INFORMATION CAMPAIGNS IN TOLEBI AND KAZYGURT DISTRICTS

On 1st of March 2021under the Migration Agency of the UN a pilot program in partnership with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan, lawyers of the PA LCWI "Sana Sezim" and representatives of law enforcement agencies in the mobile group on combating human trafficking conducted information campaigns in Tolebi and Kazygurt districts. The lawyers answered questions on the identification of victims of human trafficking and the types of assistance provided by the PA LCWI "Sana Sezim". A survey was conducted to determine the level of awareness about human trafficking.

AN EXTENDED EXPERT MEETING OF NATIONAL NETWORK

On February 24, 2021there was an extended expert meeting of National Network for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights to discuss problematic issues in the documentation of citizens. Representatives of KIBHR, NGO "Sana Sezim" told about the identification campaign conducted in the Republic of Kazakhstan on documentation, about the project implemented jointly with UNHCR.

A FINAL MEETING WAS HELD TO DISCUSS THE RESULTS OF COOPERATION BETWEEN THE UNICEF AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN

On February 25, 2021a final meeting was held to discuss the results of cooperation between the UNICEF and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the year 2020. The results achieved during the year were highlighted, as well as strategic plans and priorities for 2021 were discussed. Moreover, the new Country Programme on Cooperation between the UNICEF and the Government of Kazakhstan for 2021-2025 was discussed. During the meeting, the PA LCWI "Sana Sezim" presented the results of the project "Protection of Children in Migration Processes in Shymkent and Turkestan Region" for the year 2020. The activities of PA LCWI "Sana Sezim" in the framework of the project were highly appreciated by the UNICEF representatives.

AN EXTRAORDINARY MEETING OF THE INTERDEPARTMENTAL COMMISSION ON COMBATING ILLEGAL EXPORT, IMPORT AND TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS

On February 24, 2021an extraordinary meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on Combating Illegal Export, Import and Trafficking in Persons was held. Under the chairmanship of Mr. Yerlan Aukenov, Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Action Plan of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the prevention and combating of crimes related to trafficking in persons for 2021-2023 was presented with new activities and additions.

TRAINING "SMART NAVIGATOR"

Another session of the Smart Navigator program was held with 30 students from the Industrial Technical College as part of the Safe Migration in Central Asia project, funded by USAID and implemented jointly with Winrock International. When staff members from NGO "Sana Sezim" explained the difference between "child labor" and "child trafficking," participants showed an interest in drafting an employment contract for workers 15-17 years old.

HUMANITARIAN AID AND ASSISTANCE IN DOCUMENTING A CITIZEN OF THE REPUBLIC OF TAJIKISTAN

The man wept when he learned that there is a hope for reunification with his family in Tajikistan and thanked the PA LCWI "Sana Sezim" and other organizations for their support and assistance.

INFORMATION CAMPAIGN IN THE OTYRAR DISTRICT AND ARYS CITY

We are conducting information campaigns on combating human trafficking not only in the city of Shymkent, but also in the districts of the Turkestan oblast. On February 18, 2021 lawyers of the PA LCWI "Sana Sezim" and representatives of law enforcement agencies in a mobile group conducted another information campaign in the Otyrar district and Arys city within the pilot project with the support of the IOM, MIA, MLSPA and the General Prosecutor's Office of Kazakhstan.

VIRTUAL MEETING OF THE OFFICE TO MONITOR AND COMBAT TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS AND THE US EMBASSY WITH THE HEADS OF KAZAKHSTANI NGOs

Dr. Kari Johnstone, Acting Director of the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons and the U.S. Embassy on February 17 held a virtual meeting with the heads of Kazakhstani NGOs to discuss achievements and areas still needing improvement in the fight against trafficking in persons in Kazakhstan and Central Asia.

TRAINING "SMART NAVIGATOR"

"What is the connection between drugs and human trafficking?"

This was the question the staff of the PA LCWI "Sana Sezim" began the weekly training "Smart Navigator" with the students of the Industrial and Technical College. When asked by students about the relationship between drugs and human trafficking, the trainers explained that taking drugs can increase the risk of becoming a victim of human trafficking, because in this case a person ceases to think clearly.

RETURN OF CHILDREN TO UZBEKISTAN

We are happy to share with the joyful news about the children we told you about earlier, who have been waiting to return to Uzbekistan.

On February 16, 2021the Center for Adaptation of Minors (CAM) Shymkent staff delivered three girls to the border between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to the "Zhibek Zholy" checkpoint. On neutral territory, the Shymkent CAM representatives handed the children over to the Tashkent CAM staff. Now the children have been safely delivered to the Republic of Uzbekistan and placed in the CAM of Tashkent. In just a few days relatives will be able to take the girls from the CAM! We are glad that the PA LCWI "Sana Sezim" contributed to the reunification of the children with their families in Uzbekistan.
