UNICEF AND PA LCWI "SANA SEZIM" REPRESENTATIVES MEETING WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION OF THE CITY OF SHYMKENT

In Shymkent with the support of the UNICEF the project on improvement of language literacy of children affected by migration processes and returned from conflict zones "Improving Russian language skills among vulnerable groups of children for integration and improving learning outcomes, especially children in migration processes and children returned from conflict zones" is being implemented. As part of the project, Mr. Philippe Testot-Ferry, coordinator of Akelius, an international initiative to improve the language literacy of children, visited the city of Shymkent.

AWARENESS CAMPAIGN ON STATELESSNESS ISSUES FOR STUDENTS

On April 6, 2022 specialists of the PA LCWI "Sana Sezim" conducted an awareness campaign on statelessness issues for students of the Industrial and Technical College of Shymkent. During the campaign, students learned about the problem of statelessness, the status of stateless persons, as well as information about assistance to stateless persons provided by the PA LCWI "Sana Sezim".

Lawyer of the “Sana Sezim” Center, citing examples from the situations of the Center's beneficiaries, discussed the problems faced by stateless persons. Information materials prepared as part of the project with the support of the UNHCR were handed over to students and the college administration for further reading and distribution.

XXII CONFERENCE OF THE ALLIANCE AGAINST TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS WITH THE THEME “PROTECTION: UPHOLDING VICTIMS’ RIGHTS AND STRENGTHENING ASSISTANCE”

From April 4 to 6, 2022, the 22nd conference of the Alliance against Trafficking in Persons takes place in Vienna, Austria, with the theme “Protection: upholding victims’ rights and strengthening assistance”. The focus is on protection and assistance - and in particular on a victim-centered approach to supporting victims of trafficking and protecting their rights.

MEETING OF THE COORDINATING COUNCIL

On April 4, 2022 on the basis of the office of the PA LCWI "Sana Sezim" there was a meeting of the Coordinating Council under the project "Improving Russian language skills among vulnerable groups of children to integrate and improve learning outcomes, especially children in migration processes and children who have returned from conflict zones" supported by the UNICEF and the Committee for Pre-school and Secondary Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of Kazakhstan.

REPORT ON THE WORK DONE WITH THE PARTICIPATION OF MAYOR OF SHYMKENT

A report on the work done with the participation of Mayor of Shymkent, Mr. Murat Aytenov, chairman and members of the Public Council under the Akim of Shymkent, representatives of the local executive authorities, as well as the media was held today, on April 2, 2022 in the Abai district akimat of Shymkent.

In the framework of the report it was announced that Akimat received 32 questions from the residents of Abay district, which were subsequently solved. Among the resolved issues: the establishment of stops for public transport and road signs, adding new routes of public transport in remote areas, paving streets, drinking water, etc.

THE FIRST MEETING OF THE PUBLIC COUNCIL ON THE ACTIVITIES OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS BODIES

On March 30, 2022in Nur-Sultan the first meeting of the Public Council on the activities of internal affairs bodies with the participation of Akhmetzhanov Marat, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held. The meeting was held in a hybrid format: online and offline.

The Public Council consisted of well-known public figures, lawyers, human rights activists and representatives of mass media. Shakhnoza Khassanova, Director of the PA LCWI "Sana Sezim", representing civil society also became a member of the Public Council.

IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PROJECT "SUPPORT FOR TAJIK MIGRANTS IN KAZAKHSTAN"

Within the USAID-funded “Safe Migration in Central Asia” project, which is implemented by Winrock International the PA LCWI "Sana Sezim" from March 18, 2022 to March 17, 2023 is implementing the project "Support for Tajik migrants in Kazakhstan". The project will cover Shymkent city, Turkestan region (Saryagash and Makhtaaral districts).

Target group: migrants and their families from Tajikistan.

A SEMINAR ON “ENHANCING REPSONSE TO TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS, PARTICULARLY IN WOMEN AND GIRLS FOR SEXUAL EXPLOITATION, THROUGH CROSS-BORDER CRIMINAL JUSTICE COOPERATION IN SOUTHERN CAUCASUS AND CENTRAL ASIA”

On 17-18 March, 2022 in Tbilisi, Georgia, a seminar on “Enhancing repsonse to trafficking in persons, particularly in women and girls for sexual exploitation, through cross-border criminal justice cooperation in Southern Caucasus and Central Asia” was held.

OUTREACH TO RAISE STUDENT AWARENESS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ISSUES

On 18 March, 2022 at the Industrial and Technical College of Shymkent, the lawyer of the PA LCWI "Sana Sezim" Mr.Tulayev conducted outreach to raise student awareness of domestic violence issues. The lawyer of the center explained the types of domestic violence, the types of state assistance to victims and the help available in the center "Sana Sezim". Students were explained that the PA LCWI "Sana Sezim" provides legal and socio-psychological assistance to victims of domestic violence, and can get anonymous and free help by calling the "hot line" of the center.

OUTREACH WORK FOR SCHOOLCHILDREN ON HUMAN TRAFFICKING PREVENTION

On March 11, 2022 within the framework of the project "Together against human trafficking through capacity building of CSOs!" with the support of the U.S. Department of State, staff of the PA LCWI "Sana Sezim" conducted outreach work for schoolchildren on human trafficking prevention. As a result of the information campaign, the students of 11th grade of the School #9 in Shymkent were informed about the problem of human trafficking. The lawyer of the “Sana Sezim” Center warned high school students about the dangers of adulthood, gave advice on the prevention of human trafficking, and answered their questions on the issue.
