MEETING WITH THE AMBASSADOR OF GREAT BRITAIN

On July 8, 2023as part of her trip to Shymkent Ambassador Kathy Leach met with Shakhnoza Khassanova, the director of the Legal centre of women initiatives "Sana Sezim".

The sides discussed the lasting cooperation relations with the British Embassy, human rights situation in the region, specifics of work, and current projects.

ONLINE MEETING ON "LEGAL ASSISTANCE TO STATELESS PERSONS IN THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN"

On July 4, 2023 an online meeting on "Legal Assistance to Stateless Persons in the Republic of Kazakhstan" was held, organized by NGO "Sana Sezim" in partnership with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. The event brought together representatives of the National Center for Human Rights and regional representatives of the Commissioner for Human Rights.

High-level representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Health, National Centre for Human Rights, UNHCR, KIBHR, as well as NGO Sana Sezim attended the event. The platform provided an opportunity to discuss the problem of statelessness from different angles and share experiences and knowledge.

MOBILE RECEPTION OF CITIZENS IN THREE DISTRICTS OF TURKESTAN REGION

On June 29, 2023 the staff of NGO "Sana Sezim" together with the employees of the Migration Service Department of Police of Turkestan region organized a mobile reception of citizens in three districts of Turkestan region. Specialists informed the population of Saryagash, Keles and Ordabasy districts about the problems of undocumented persons and consulted about the process of documentation. This support was possible within the scope of joint project of NGO "Sana Sezim" with UNHCR "Provision of legal assistance to stateless persons in Turkestan, Kyzylorda, Zhambyl regions and Shymkent city".

COMBATING TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS: STRENGTHENING INTERAGENCY COOPERATION THROUGH SIMULATION TRAINING

The next Central Asian Regional Simulation exercise "Combating Trafficking in Persons: Strengthening Interagency Cooperation through Simulation Training" kicked off in Astana. This large-scale event will last from June 26 to 30, 2023.

Since 2018, simulation exercises on combating trafficking in persons on migration routes have been held in Kazakhstan. They are organized by the OSCE Programme Office in Astana with the support of the Office of the OSCE Special Representative and Coordinator for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and other international organizations. The venue for the exercises is the Law Enforcement Academy under the General Prosecutor's Office of Kazakhstan, which is an important anti-trafficking center.

STRATEGIES AND ACTIVITIES TO SUPPORT VICTIMS OF GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE IN CENTRAL ASIA

With the support of the OSCE, WIN and Violence Against & Girls, the event "Strategies and Activities to Support Victims of Gender-Based Violence in Central Asia" was held from 20-21 June 2023. The event focused on networking and capacity building for women's resource centers and civil society organizations.

INFORMATION CAMPAIGN AT THE RAILWAY STATION IN SHYMKENT

NGO "Sana Sezim" actively supports the operational and preventive measure "STOP-Trafficking", organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan from 14 to 16 June. As part of this initiative, on June 16, 2023 NGO "Sana Sezim" together with the Office for Combating Organized Crime of the Shymkent City Police Department conducted an information campaign at the railway station.

Thanks to the incredible enthusiasm of our volunteers, we were able to achieve maximum coverage and disseminate important information to the public. Together we will do everything we can to prevent human trafficking and protect everyone from human trafficking!

OPERATIONAL AND PREVENTIVE MEASURE "STOP TRAFFICKING"

On June 15, 2023the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan launched an operational and preventive measure "STOP Trafficking". It is aimed at detecting and suppressing cases of human trafficking and illegal deprivation of liberty for further exploitation.

REGIONAL MEETING OF THE CENTRAL ASIAN MEMBERS OF THE ECPAT INTERNATIONAL NETWORK

On June 6, 2023, a regional meeting of the Central Asian members of the ECPAT International network on the prevention and protection of children from sexual exploitation and trafficking in persons was held in Tashkent. The event brought together representatives of government agencies, international organizations and non-governmental organizations from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

UNHCR TRAINING FOR NGO PARTNERS IN KAZAKHSTAN

On 31 May, 2023 UNHCR Central Asia and Kazakhstan organized a training for NGO partners in Kazakhstan. The main objective of the training was to train UNHCR partners in Kazakhstan on procurement guidelines, PSEAs (Protection, Assistance, Expertise and Regulations) and the Code of Conduct. Specific issues and recommendations identified during project monitoring were also addressed.

HIGH-LEVEL ROUNDTABLE ON THE ERADICATION OF STATELESSNESS IN CENTRAL ASIA

On 30 May 2023a high-level roundtable on the eradication of statelessness in Central Asia was held in Almaty to make Central Asia the first sub-region to successfully address the issue.

The roundtable, organized by UNHCR in Central Asia, brought together government officials and representatives from Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as well as national and international experts to share good practices and experiences in addressing statelessness. An important part of the discussion was the commitments related to statelessness in the upcoming Global Refugee Forum (GRF) 2023.
