From 11 - 13 June 2017, the consultation on statelessness of UNHCR and NGOs was held (Switzerland). From the network for stateless persons participated Atoboeva Dilorom (Tadzhikistan) and Shakhnoza Khassanova (Kazakhstan).

This meeting was an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between all stakeholders in order to achieve the UNIBR #IBELONG campaign, which will help reduce statelessness by 2024.

Statement by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees on the Occasion of World Refugee Day

On June 20, World Refugee Day, we honour the resilience and courage of more than 65 million people who have been forced to flee war, persecution and violence. But it’s also a moment to recognize those communities and people around the world who receive refugees and the internally displaced in their midst, offering them a safe haven, and welcoming them in their schools, their workplaces and their societies.

The Office of the General Prosecutor of the Republic of Kazakhstan and representatives of state bodies and civil society are implementing a pilot project "Kazakhstan without domestic violence" in the period from June to November 2017 in the South Kazakhstan region.

On 30 May 2017, the seminar on dissemination, presentation and use of gender statistics in Kazakhstanfor representatives of state bodies and nongovernmental organizations (from the NGO “Sana Sezim” participated – Ildar Khulialin) was held in Astana. International experts in the field of gender statistics also actively participated at the seminar.

In Kazakhstan, the Ombudsman for the Rights of the Child of the Republic of Kazakhstan establishes a monitoring group to carry out permanent and independent public monitoring of closed, children's institutions in order to ensure and guarantee the observance of the children’s rights.

From 29 – 31 May 2017, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the South Kazakhstan region jointly with the civil society (NGO "Sana Sezim", "Anarar үyi") conducted among the population in South Kazakhstan region the preventive measures of "Turmys" aimed at preventing domestic violence in families, crimes on the basis of alcoholism, as well as offenses.

On 30 May 2017, the round table on questions of birth registration and individual rights was held in Astana.

On 18 May 2017, the third regional meeting of the Central Asian network on Statelessness was held in Almaty.

Purpose of the regional meeting:

On 21 April 2017, the working meeting on making proposals to the list of state social orders positions, providing free legal assistance to migrant workers in the South Kazakhstan region was held at the rooms of the NGO “Sana Sezim”.

According to the plan of joint measures to implement the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On the Prevention of Domestic Violence" with the District Departments of the Interior (Al-Farabi, Abay, Enbekshinsky, Karatau districts), from 12 to 14 April 2017, the action "Family Without Domestic Violence" will be conucted in Shymkent.
