Regional Thematic Seminar “The History of Two Crises: Migration and Violent Extremism. Interrelation of Migration, Education and Development and Prevention of Violent Extremism”

From 18-19 September 2017, the regional thematic seminar on the topic “The History of Two Crises: Migration and Violent Extremism. Interrelation of Migration, Education and Development and Prevention of Violent Extremism” was held within the framework of USAID’s project “Dignity and Rights” in Astana. This event was organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in close cooperation with UNESCO, UNDP and with the support of the Library of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Meeting with Educators for the Identification of Stateless Persons

On 7 September 2017, the meeting with representatives of the UO SKO to identify stateless persons in the South Kazakhstan region was held in Shymkent.

The purpose of the meeting was to increase the awareness of the participants about the provision of free legal aid to stateless persons, as well as further cooperation with teachers of secondary education institutions to identify stateless persons. Particular attention was paid to underage children who never received a birth certificate and whose citizenship is unknown.

Thematic Seminar “The Right of Migrants to Health Care and Access to Health Services”

From 4 -5 September 2017, the thematic seminar “The Rights of Migrants to Health Care and Access to Health Services” was held in Astana and was organized by IOM for representatives of central and local authorities, public organizations (working in the field of protecting the rights of migrants and their access to health services), as well as diasporas, employers, diplomatic missions and international organizations.

Objectives:

Round Table “Data on Children, Data for Children”

On 25 August 2017, the round table “Data on Children, Data for Children” was held in Shymkent and was organized by representatives of the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Kazakhstan together with the Committee on Statistics of the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The round table was attended by non-governmental organizations and state and law enforcement agencies of the South Kazakhstan region.

The objectives of the round table were:

30th July – World Day against Trafficking in Persons

The World Day against Trafficking in Persons is celebrated annually on July 30. For the first time, the decision to declare this date as the international day of the fight against human trafficking was adopted on December 18, 2013 and was officially confirmed by the resolution of the UN General Assembly "Improving the coordination of efforts to combat trafficking in persons".

The resolution was adopted with the objective to intensifying international efforts aimed at counteracting the phenomenon of human trafficking.

PRESS ANNOUNCEMENT

From July 17 to July 31, 2017, under the pilot project "Kazakhstan without Domestic Violence", a legal counseling center for victims of domestic violence will operate on the initiative of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the basis of the NGO "Sana Sezim".

Third Meeting of the Women's Peace Dialogue

From June 26 - 30, 2017, the third meeting of the Women's Peace Dialogue took place at Schlaining Castle, at the Austrian Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution. Women-peacemakers from 13 countries met in the center.

Training “Human Rights and Conscientious Employment of foreign Workers”

From 12-13 June 2017, the training “Human Rights and Conscientious Employment of foreign Workers” was conducted for representatives of state and law enforcement agencies, regional NGOs (from the NGO "Sana Sezim participated Liliya Khaliulin, lawyer), Embassies and Consulates, as well as UN agencies in Almaty.

This training is part of the National Training Course (2016-2020), conducted by the IOM sub regional Coordination Office for Central Asia.

Consultation on Statelessness of UNHCR and NGOs

From 11 - 13 June 2017, the consultation on statelessness of UNHCR and NGOs was held (Switzerland). From the network for stateless persons participated Atoboeva Dilorom (Tadzhikistan) and Shakhnoza Khassanova (Kazakhstan).

This meeting was an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between all stakeholders in order to achieve the UNIBR #IBELONG campaign, which will help reduce statelessness by 2024.
