On April 28, 2010 the Commission on the Status of Women, Family, and Demographic Policy in the South Kazakhstan Region, Public Association the Legal Center for Women’s Initiatives “Sana Sezim”, and the Department of Internal Affairs in the South Kazakhstan Region held a round table discussion on the Law “On the Prevention of Domestic Violence” and the Law “On State Guarantees of Equal Rights and Equal Opportunities for Men and Women”, in the city of Shymkent.
   Participants in the round table were representatives of law enforcement agencies, the Department of Internal Affairs, public health, educational, and non-governmental organizations and the media.

The following topics were discussed at the round table:
• The adoption and application of the Law "On the Prevention of Domestic Violence.”
• On the implementation of the Law "On State Guarantees of Equal Rights and Equal Opportunities for Men and Women."
• The problem of domestic violence in the South Kazakhstan Region.
• Organizations that provide medical and psychological care services to victims of domestic violence.
