INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON "STRENGTHENING NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS COMBATING TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS"

In anticipation of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, an international conference on "Strengthening National and International Partnerships Combating Trafficking in Persons" was organized on 27-28 July 2023. This forum was organized by the Law Enforcement Academy, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the USAID Project "Safe Migration in Central Asia", implemented by Winrock International, and the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) of the U.S. Department of State.

The conference brought together government and law enforcement officials, representatives of non-governmental organizations and international experts from Central Asian countries such as Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The event focused on important issues of regional cooperation and interaction between government agencies and civil society organizations to better search for and identify victims of crime, as well as assist victims of various forms of exploitation. During the conference, an overview of solved crimes and crime statistics related to the investigation of trafficking in persons cases in recent years was presented. Participants highlighted the role of border, migration and customs services in the detection of human trafficking offenses, as well as identification at the state border and referral of victims. The various types of support provided by international organizations to countries to counter trafficking in persons were also discussed.
