FIELD MEETINGS WITH THE POPULATION OF 5 DISTRICTS OF TURKESTAN REGION ON DOCUMENTATION

From February 20 to 24, 2023, lawyers of NGO "Sana Sezim" and representatives of the Migration Department of the Police Department of Turkestan oblast conducted field meetings with the population of Maktaaral, Shardara, Saryagash, Keles and Sairam districts of Turkestan oblast to provide mobile legal aid to undocumented people.

Purpose:informing and identifying stateless persons, as well as undocumented persons among vulnerable segments of the population for further provision of free legal assistance in documenting.

Employees of NGO "Sana Sezim" together with representatives of the Department of Migration Service of DP Turkestan region at the front office of RPF of Keles district, Turkestan region held a meeting with citizens who have problems with documentation, living in the five districts of Turkestan region. The meeting was attended by people who have difficulties in providing the necessary documents to obtain the status of LBG, citizenship on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan. During the conversation it was revealed that the main problems faced by undocumented persons are the difficulties in applying to the Embassies or Consulates General of the USSR countries to obtain the following documents:

- certificate of non-membership in citizenship;

- certificate of no criminal record;

- a duplicate birth certificate.

There were 60 people at the meeting, who received free legal advice and were invited to the NGO "Sana Sezim" office for further assistance with documentation. Full documentation was studied individually for each person who applied for consultation. The coordinator gave further recommendations to the lawyer on case management related to accompaniment of persons to state and law enforcement agencies, establishment of cooperation with representatives of local executive bodies. A list of undocumented persons was prepared and the lawyer of the organization sent requests to the relevant state and law enforcement agencies.

This series of events was made possible through the implementation of the project "Provision of legal assistance to stateless persons in Kyzylorda, Zhambyl, Turkestan regions and Shymkent" in partnership with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
