THE FIRST MEETING OF THE PUBLIC COUNCIL ON THE ACTIVITIES OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS BODIES WAS HELD

On February 8, 2023 in Astana the first meeting of the Public Council over the activities of internal affairs bodies with the Minister of Internal Affairs, Colonel-General of Police Marat Akhmetzhanov was held.
At the meeting the Minister told about the results of work of law-enforcement bodies for 2022. Such data about crime situation in the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2022 were announced:
- about 151 thousand criminal offenses were registered;
- the number of murders (-15%), robberies (-21%), rapes (-28%), cattle thefts (-21%) decreased;
- 2,440 drug crimes were detected;
- 24 leaders, 17 influential persons and 114 members of an organized criminal group were brought to justice.

In his speech the Minister of Internal Affairs voiced the steps that had been implemented to modernize the law enforcement system:
1. Criteria for evaluating work were revised;
2. Debureaucratization and optimization;
3. Introduction of a service model of police work;
5. The efficiency of service delivery;
6. Automation of personnel processes;
7. Social protection of officers.

At the end of the meeting, the Minister talked about the field meetings held with the population of 10 regions of Kazakhstan in the form of "live dialogue", in which members of the Public Council also took an active part, including the director of NGO "Sana Sezim" Khassanova Shakhnoza. The Minister noted that civil society is a bridge between the Government and the people to ensure the constitutional rights of citizens.
Also Rakhim Oshakbayev, Chairman of the Public Council for Questions of Internal Affairs, spoke about the activities of the Public Council and summarized the results for 2022.

There was presented a draft of the Concept of public safety in partnership with society for 2024-2028 by Deputy Chief of Staff of the MIA RK, Dyusekova Aliya.
