FIELD VISITS IN SUPPORT OF THE INTERNATIONAL #IBELONG CAMPAIGN AND THE NATIONAL IDENTIFICATION CAMPAIGN IN KAZAKHSTAN ON STATELESSNESS

On April 18, 2022 within the framework of joint implementation of the project with the UNHCR, together with representatives of the migration services we continue to hold field visits with beneficiaries in support of the international #IBelong campaign and the national identification campaign in Kazakhstan on statelessness. This time the outreach meeting consisted of two stages in the city of Taraz, Zhambyl region.

I stage: representatives of the PA LCWI "Sana Sezim", General Consulate of Uzbekistan in Almaty and Department of Migration Police of Zhambyl oblast, represented by the head of department Arman Turdaliyev, discussed problematic issues in documentation, worked out joint recommendations, and noted the importance of work in preventing double citizenship.

II stage: undocumented persons as well as those who have certain problems with documents received legal consultations. Explanatory work and consultations via videoconference were also held with persons who could not come to the meeting from remote areas of Zhambyl oblast.

We would like to note that the meeting was joined not only by representatives of the migration service and NGOs, but also by representatives of the Consulate General of Uzbekistan, who specifically came to the city of Taraz to promptly solve the issues of documentation. Thanks to the coordinated work of all parties the issue of the citizen of the Republic of Uzbekistan, who gave birth to a child in Kazakhstan, was resolved. The staff of the Consulate General of Uzbekistan quickly prepared a certificate for the child's return, which allowed the mother not to travel to Almaty to get the documents.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all participants of the outreach meeting for their cooperation in resolving issues of documenting people.
