10th CIVIL FORUM OF KAZAKHSTAN

On November 26, 2021 head of the Legal Center for Women's Initiatives "Sana Sezim" Shakhnoza Khassanova spoke at the plenary session of the 10th Civil Forum.

She spoke about cooperation with state and law enforcement agencies, international organizations in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, as a result of which they were able to provide legal and humanitarian assistance to thousands of migrant workers who had accumulated near the border of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Shakhnoza Khassanova emphasized that this joint activity has been highly acclaimed internationally, and she is one of the eight Trafficking in Persons Report (TIP) Heroes of the US Department of State for her efforts and commitment to eradicate modern slavery.

As she noted, in our time, the issues of protecting victims of trafficking in persons are still relevant, requiring special attention from the Government. Vulnerable groups are expanding, which includes not only women and children, but also undocumented persons, refugees, and stateless persons.

“New challenges in the field of human trafficking await us, and we, as a developing democratic country, must take appropriate measures to prevent this deviant phenomenon,” Shakhnoza Khassanova summed up her speech.
