WORLD DAY AGAINST CHILD LABOUR

Did you know that one in ten children in the world is exposed to child labour? Some 160 million children are forced to work despite the fact that they are too young to work, which can compromise their physical and mental development, thus depriving them of education and social skills. In Turkestan province, working children are involved in begging, service industries (car washes, cafes), cotton-growing and agriculture.

In order to eliminate the worst forms of child labour, which are dangerous to the lives and future of children, an international instrument, Convention 182 on the Prohibition and Immediate Action for the Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labour, was proposed in 1999. In addition, to raise awareness and strengthen action to prevent child labour, the World Day Against Child Labour is celebrated every year on June 12. As the COVID-19 crisis threatens to reverse years of progress on the problem, 2021 has been declared the International Year for the Elimination of Child Labour.

The NGO “Sana Sezim” sees its work in continuing to help eradicate child labour through the distribution of handouts, information campaigns, lectures and training sessions.
