NGO "SANA SEZIM" CONTINUES ITS WORK TO ASSIST WOMEN AND THEIR CHILDREN WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

NGO "Sana Sezim" with the support of the OSCE Program Office in Nur-Sultan continues its work to assist women and their children who have experienced domestic violence.

As it mentioned earlier, there are a lot of reasons why people, especially women and children, are subjected to domestic violence, this is mentality, and the low financial situation of the family, alcoholism or drug addiction, quarantine, etc. It can also be caused by the consequences of human exploitation, especially if it is sexual exploitation. As a rule, women who have been subjected to this type of exploitation try to hide this fact, because they are afraid of being misunderstood and not accepted by their relatives and friends, they are afraid of condemnation from friends and neighbors, especially if they have to return to a small village. It is very difficult to defend your rights and, all the more, to bring to justice the people who recruited, deceived, sold a woman into slavery, and it is very important to do this, because “tomorrow” another girl may also suffer and be deceived.

Our ward, who decided to punish her offenders, who fraudulently registered a fictitious marriage and took her out of Kazakhstan for exploitation, is going through difficult times, she has problems in her family. In addition to the fact that she survived exploitation several years ago, today she is also a victim of domestic violence. These are endless humiliations, beatings by a civil husband. She does not know what to do, because she has a newborn baby, parents who could support her passed away, she is an orphan. Unfortunately, now women cannot get a place in a shelter for victims of domestic violence due to quarantine because of COVID-19 pandemic.

This woman applied to our organization on the recommendation of law enforcement agencies. Employees of our organization, represented by a social worker and a psychologist, went to the victim, who ran away from home with a newborn child and took refuge in a rented apartment. We assessed the situation and identified the needs of a woman in a difficult situation who, in addition to her natural needs in the form of food, sanitary means and childcare, needs legal assistance. It is necessary to annul the fictitious marriage and obtain the documents of the newborn, this will allow the woman to receive benefits for the birth of a child and provide him with everything necessary.

This case shows the well-established cooperation of our organization with government bodies, as well as support from international organizations.

Thanks to the OSCE Program Office in Nur-Sultan, 13 crisis centers in 8 regions of Kazakhstan are supported during quarantine.
