From April 19-24, 2020 The Legal Center for Women’s Initiatives “Sana Sezim”, in part of the project “Legal education to counteract human trafficking”, will hold a training seminar in Shymkent, Kazakhstan. The project is funded by the European Commission.
Representatives of government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and the media, working in this field, are invited to participate in the training seminar.
At the training seminar, issues will be discussed regarding the role of government agencies and NGOs have in providing legal assistance to human trafficking victims. In particular, providing effective and integrated methods of care for people who find themselves in trouble, and existing legal and institutional mechanisms to address problems faced by human trafficking victims.
Trainees will be provided with the following: | |
- Background information; - International documents; - Review of legislation in Kazakhstan; |
- Research and initiatives; - Handout materials for the training seminar; - Evaluation surveys; |

The training seminar will include the following topics:
- “Human trafficking” and “trafficking”: related terms;
- Legislation to prevent human trafficking: international and national levels;
- Addressing problems regarding human rights;
- Programs to prevent human trafficking and promote cooperation between government agencies to develop and adopt legislation to protect and rehabilitate victims;
- Non-governmental and international organizations working to prevent human trafficking;
- Informational and educational activities of NGOs;
- Prevention and awareness of human trafficking for those wishing to work abroad, and for those foreign nationals wishing to work in Kazakhstan;
- Assistance to victims of human trafficking and sexual violence;
- Learning the basics of crisis counseling;
- Development of telephone counseling schemes for victims of sex trafficking;
- Formation of a database regarding the issue;
- Development of a structure to collect and process incoming information regarding the issue;
The trainers will be experts from our partner organizations, the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights in Poland and NGO “Orken Ortalygy” in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
