DEPARTURE OF EMPLOYEES OF NGO "SANA SEZIM" TO THE BORDER TO PROVIDE HUMANITARIAN AID TO THE CITIZENS OF TAJKISTAN

Employees of NGO “Sana Sezim” received information from the IOM of the UN Agency on Tajik citizens at the Zhibek Zholy checkpoint (Chernyaevka) between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, waiting for the possibility of crossing the border and returning to Tajikistan. While the issue of transit of migrants through the territory of Uzbekistan to Tajikistan is being decided, Tajik citizens remain on the territory of Kazakhstan and are left on their own.

On May 28, 2020,the staff of NGO “Sana Sezim” organized a trip to the border to provide humanitarian aid in the form of masks, gloves, antiseptics, and drinking water. The second trip with humanitarian aid (food) took place on May 29, 2020. About 200 citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan, including women and children, are living on the street without any shelter, food, water in unsanitary conditions; do not have personal protective equipment and hygiene products. If young men endure these deprivations more persistently, then for older citizens and women with children it is much more difficult. All of them came from different regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, some of them came from the Russian Federation. Many of them have been at the border for more than two months, since the borders closed due to a declared emergency. Citizens of Tajikistan received humanitarian aid with great gratitude to IOM and the staff of NGO “Sana Sezim”. We want to note that humanitarian aid was organized as part of the project “Strengthening the fight against human trafficking and protecting vulnerable migrants in Central Asia in the context of regional and global challenges”, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway.
