Prevention of HIV among labor migrants in Central Asia, with the financial support of the International Organization for Migration
Project timeline: December 1, 2009 – December 31, 2010
Objective:
- Prevention of HIV among labor migrants in Central Asia.
Activities:
- Spread information about HIV among labor migrants (transmission, safe behavior, condom use);
- Raise awareness among labor migrants about the services available to them, like HIV/AIDS centers, NGOs working with HIV/AIDS, offices for counseling, treatment, and testing for HIV/AIDS and STIs, and the social services available from Foundation East-West;
- Participate in a regional network of NGOs;
- Collaborate closely with existing mechanisms to work with migrants, including those of government agencies, employers and recruiting agencies, ethnic communities, and the social groups of labor migrants, with the aim of involving them in activities to prevent HIV among labor migrants.
