The second meeting of the Coordination Council under the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Kazakhstan

On October 16, 2018, the second meeting of the Coordination Council under the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Kazakhstan was held in Astana within the framework of the joint program of the European Union and UNICEF «The protection of children in migration processes». Representatives of state bodies, academic organizations and NGOs participated in the working meeting (from the NGO «Sana Sezim» participated Liliya Khaliulina).

Goal - discuss progress in the implementation of a work plan for the protection of children in migration processes.

During the meeting the participants discussed the issues of access of children undergoing migration to education, psycho-social support and health care. They also discussed discussed addressing issues of undocumented children and stateless children. Such children are extremely vulnerable because their status limits their access to education, health care and socialization.

Particular attention was paid to improving the national legal framework, strengthening existing protective procedures, improving the quality of training for social workers, law enforcement officers, migration authorities, guardianship and trusteeship. In general, it is expected that it will allow practitioners to timely detect, guide and assist vulnerable children in the migration process.

It is important to note that the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Akan Rakhmetullin said that Kazakhstan is ready to join the Global Compact on Safe, Orderly and Regulated Migration - the world's first global UN agreement on a common approach to international migration - which is scheduled for adoption on December 10-11 Marrakech, Morocco.
