International Conference “Prevention of Domestic Violence - Real Steps to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in Kazakhstan”

In 8 December 2017, the international conference “Prevention of Domestic Violence – Real Steps to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in Kazakhstan” was held in Astana.At the conference, the results of the implemented pilot project "Kazakhstan without Domestic Violence" were announced.

Since June 2017 the pilot project “Kazakhstan without Domestic Violence” was implemented under the leadership of the Prosecutor General's Officein the South Kazakhstan region. Local government bodies were oriented towards the transition from declarative practice to the identification of violence.

Moreover, within the framework of the pilot project, the Family Affairs Directorate and the Center for the Rehabilitation of Family Aggressors have been established, a comprehensive algorithm for interaction between state agencies has been developed, as well as the project of the Unified Information Database on the Prevention of Domestic Violence based on the e-Halyk system. In 14 districts of the South Kazakhstan region, the social and psychological support services have been established, which are accessible to the rural population. There are crisis beds and services are provided free of charge.

More than 3 thousand events were held within the framework of the pilot project and reached about 1 million people. Assistance was provided to more than 7 thousand Kazakhstanis. Training courses were conducted for educators, health workers, social workers, and new services.

The conference was organized by the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan and international organizations (UN Women, UNFPA, UNICEF, attended by representatives of the presidential administration, the Prime Minister's Office, parliamentarians, members of the National Commission and the National Center for Human Rights, heads of central state and law enforcement agencies, experts from international organizations and from NGO "Sana Sezim" participated - Khadicha Abysheva.
