Round Table “Data on Children, Data for Children”

On 25 August 2017, the round table “Data on Children, Data for Children” was held in Shymkent and was organized by representatives of the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Kazakhstan together with the Committee on Statistics of the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The round table was attended by non-governmental organizations and state and law enforcement agencies of the South Kazakhstan region.

The objectives of the round table were:

  • Presentation of the first statistical collection "Children of Kazakhstan" and discussion of the need to further improve the collection, desegregation, analysis and reporting of children to make informed strategic decisions.
  • Summing up the results of the "Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey" (MICS - Round 5).

During the discussion, topics such as health, demographic characteristics, social protection of children and their education were touched upon. Moreover, special attention was paid to the members of the panel on domestic violence against children, where Shakhnoza Khasanova (from the NGO "Sana Sezim") outlined her personal experience of the citizens' increasing appeal to the center "Sana Sezim" on the issue of cruel treatment of minors.
