National informational campaign “12 days of fight against child labor”

From 1 through 12 June 2011 South Kazakhstan Oblast Department on child rights protection, SKO Department of Education, SKO Interior Department, NGO  “Sana Sezim” carried out raids in the parks, large trade centers, markets, and car wash points of Abaisky, Enbekshinsky and Al-Farabi Districts of Shymkent, within the National informational campaign “12 days of fight against child labor”.

During the raids conducted in 1 through 12 June 2011 in three districts of Shymkent there were 56 under-age children, who were helping their parents in the market carrying out various work. Out of them 35 under-age children were trading along with their parents in the markets of Shymkent; 5 under-aged were helping their fathers to sell auto spare parts in Koktem market; 10 under-aged were working in the car wash points; 1 under-aged child was working as cashier in public bus No. 101; 5 kids were cadging and were identified on place; 2 under-aged children were placed to the Adaptation Center for under-aged.

Children and their parents were explained about their rights and responsibilities according to the Legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, they also have been rendered psychological help, Hotline service was operating.

Parents and employers were informed about the Article 179 of the Labor Code of the RK, in which it is stipulated that it is prohibited to apply the labor of children, not reached an 18-year old, on heavy works, works with harmful (very harmful) and (or) hazardous labor conditions, and also about the Order No. 185-p of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population of the RK dated 31 July 2007 “On the approval of the List of works on which it is prohibited to apply the work of employees not reached 18-year-old, limited norms of carrying and transporting the heavy things by the employees not reached 18-year-old”.
