The seminar concerning the issues of women’s access to justice for human trafficking.

 The seminar concerning the issues of women’s access to justice for human trafficking was held in Istanbul, Turkey on March 28th-30th. The organizers of the seminar were OSCE/ODIHR together with the university of Istanbul Bilgi. Among those who took part in the seminar there were lawyers and representatives of non-governmental organizations from the countries of Central Asia, Caucasus, South-East Europe, Western, Central and Eastern Europe. It helped to share the experiences and discuss the problems concerning the legal assistance to victims of human trafficking. 

During the seminar there have been discussed the problems concerning the universal access to justice, there has been discussed the conception of access to justice, preconditions for effective access to justice and protection of particular rights and also different mechanisms of access to justice (including criminal, civil, administrative justice and informal means on the national and international levels). There have also been discussed the concrete case in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Azerbaijan, The Czech Republic and Poland.

The seminar included the following main topics:

  • Access to justice-conception, key elements, international standards and their national application;
  • Preconditions for effective access to justice; Access to justice and system of criminal justice;
  • Access to justice in terms of civil and administrative right;
  • Access to justice and international mechanisms.

There has been conducted work in groups where the international mechanisms that could help the victims of human trafficking to get access to the justice have been discussed.

After the seminar there was developed a network of cooperation between countries of origin and destination, a better understanding of human trafficking cases with a special focus on trafficking with the purpose of labor exploitation.
