The regional conference devoted to the protection of refugees and international migration in Central Asia

 Сonference devoted to the protection of refugees and international migration in Central Asia was held on the 15th-16th March in Almaty city.

The aims of the conference:

  • Elaboration of propositions for integral and complex realization of 10 components plan for refugees protection and mixed migration in the region that is based on a mutual approach and close cooperation between States in the region and also on mediation between regional and international organizations.
  • Identification of regions where the states need targeted support from OSCE, UNHCR, IOM, RCPDCA the most, with the purpose of elaboration and realization of actions for protection in the context of mixed migration in return.
  • Exchange of positive experience concerning identification, transmission and acceptance of people who need protection because of the mixed migratory movement
  • Improvement of data acquisition and exchange of information.

There were state officials from five countries of Central Asia: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan and also representatives of Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, China, Iran, Russian Federation and Turkey who took part in the conference. The representatives of such international organizations as the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR UN), United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), International Labour Organization (ILO), scientific experts, representatives of civil society and other specialists of the region took part in the conference.
