November 30, 2009, the Head of Delegation of the European Commission in Kazakhstan, Ambassador Norbert Jousten, visited Shymkent. During the visit Mr. Jousten met with the regional Akim, Al Myrzakmetov. A press conference was held at "Ontustik Kazakhstan" to publicize the results of the tree projects funded by the EC Delegation in Kazakhstan.
- "Ensure access to justice for women who have violated the right!";
- "Developing democratic processes through increased citizen participation and the promotion of gender equitable policy";
- "Protecting freedom of speech and press in South Kazakhstan through improved access to the Internet and public monitoring".
   There was also an official opening ceremony for the European Corner at the South Kazakhstan State University named after M. Auezova.
   In general, the purpose of the visit was to raise awareness in the region on the activities of the European Commission, as well as to meet with students, teachers, and representatives of civil society.
   The organizers were representatives from the European Commission in Kazakhstan and NGO "The Legal Center for Women's Initiatives ‘Sana Sezim’”, PA “Bereke", and the “Sociological Resource Center”.
