April 21-22, 2009 the International Organization for Migration (IOM), in conjunction with NGO "Sana Sezim" of Shymkent, held a seminar on combating human trafficking at a local level in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The seminar was held as part of the Program on Labor Migration in Central Asia, which is funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the IOM.
During the workshop, a wide range of issues relating to practicing surveillance in order to detect, investigate, and prevent human trafficking in the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as international best practices to combat human trafficking, were discussed.
The seminar was attended by prosecutors of the South Kazakhstan Region, who work with cases involving human trafficking, and representatives from the Department to Combat Organized Crime of the Department of Internal Affairs of the South Kazakhstan Region.
