The Legal Center for Women's Initiatives "Sana Sezim", with the financial support of the European Commission in Kazakhstan, began the project "Providing justice to women".

   Project partners: The Association "Civil alliance SKO".

   As of now, the equality of men and women is guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan; however, there is a considerable gap between the theory of equality of standards and access to justice and its application. In the South Kazakhstan region, the legal protection of women's rights is limited, as well as the access to information about those rights and the existing laws that guarantee gender equality. This had led to several serious problems: women are unaware of their rights, they don't know how to improve their existence, and they have limited access to the justice system that could alleviate these problems.

   The aim of the project - to use an education and information campaign in the South Kazakhstan region to raise awareness about women's legal rights and the mechanisms that can be used to protect them from human trafficking. It will utilize an advanced network of partner organizations in the South Kazakhstan region and a task force of women whose rights to justice have been violated.

   The project will last 24 months.

   The project entails the following activities:

  • Informational campaign - Leaflets will be distributed among women whose rights and access to justice have been violated;
  • Educational training - Trainings will be executed for 140 women, and 60 representatives from law enforcement, judicial, and executive bodies in the South Kazakhstan region;
  • Psychological, legal, and social services;
  • Telephone hotline - Will be available from 24 hours a day.
