Despite the fact that it is a new millennium, our world still has the issue of domestic violence. What is hidden behind these words? Domestic violence - a system where one achieves or maintains power and control over others. Domestic violence can be directed to any of the family’s members: men, women, children and parents. But the facts show that most victims of domestic violence are women.
Domestic violence may begin simply with criticism, verbal humiliation. Then maybe slapping, hits, and then regular beatings. Of course, fights take place in many families, but the question is how these conflicts are resolved.
Unfortunately, more often women are insulted (by spouse or civil partner), humiliated, withheld from visits from friends, shouted at, forced into sex against their will, roughly reproached, and accused of not being able to properly dispose of the family budget.
But law enforcement officials are not always able to bring such situations to a criminal case and punish the offenders because of insufficient evidence. In our city there is the Legal Center for Women’s Initiatives “Sana Sezim”, which deals with people affected by violence, including domestic violence. The center operates a hotline, which provides information and psychological support.
If you or your friends have been victims of domestic violence seek help by calling the hotline: 21-61-52.
You will be heard and understood!
