From May 13 - 14, 2010 the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in the Republic of Kazakhstan held a seminar on combating human trafficking with the involvement of the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan, the General Prosecutor of Kazakhstan, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the NGO "Sana Sezim" for representatives of the judiciary and prosecutors.
The training program included the following topics:
- Human trafficking in the world and Central Asia.
- Definition of terms "human trafficking" and "smuggling of migrants".
- Aims of the IOM.
- National and International legislation to combat human trafficking.
- Approaches to the problem of human trafficking and identifying victims of trafficking.
- International protection of refugees and combat against human trafficking.
- Protection of the rights of trafficking victims during the criminal process.
- International cooperation and legal assistance.
- Prosecutor's supervision to identify and investigate crimes related to trafficking.
- Experience in the detection, investigation and prosecution of human trafficking in the area.
The seminar was conducted by IOM experts in Kazakhstan, the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan, the General Prosecutor of Kazakhstan, with UNHCR and the NGO "Sana Sezim”.
